Additional servers also create their own problems such as patches, updates, settings, etc. No easy solution.

It does seem ridiculous to not support mobile devices for reboots.

It's always better to spread risk but you have to weigh in cost, convenience and value as well. How big is the risk, i.e what's the likelihood that the server goes down, how much do you trust the host? Is it critical, i.e what does it cost you for n hours downtime?

I know this was a serious blow and am sorry it happened to you. If you or anyone else have any tips on how to avoid things like this or how to reduce loss if it happens please share.

You are right it is very much so that people interested in technology are more likely to run a blog themselves than average joe.

Shit happens unfortunately, many times there are not much we can do about it. I’ve had problems with servers too and know how frustrating it is. I can only imagine how it must be like to not be able to do much about it and being far away. I think the expression “don’t put all eggs in one basket” is applicable to anything, hosting included but it is also convenient to run as much as possible from one place. I guess it must be a calculated risk. As with all things that can go wrong they eventually do, and as long as it hasn’t happened to you yet you think it only happens to others.

"I don’t know how many hours I spend searching for domain names, do you know what I mean?"

I know exactly what you mean! Me too spend hours and hours trying to find a good name when I have a new idea for a site. Tools like Nameboy and Bustaname helps sometimes and GoDaddy gives some alternative suggestions if the name you wanted isn't available.

Drivingseo.com is good, it kindof sticks. Am looking forward to what this blog has to offer.

I know it wasn't exactly what we had in mind but almost.

On the other hand, If we just would go on and do it, it would still be great thing (and our thing) and it wouldn't scar the Internet.

I still like the idea and could put it together in an evening (optimistical time estimate).

Say 'when' and I'll do it.

It happens to me all the time! A few years ago it would put me off doing a new project completely, I even stopped an almost finished service when I found out that there where others doing the same thing(it was a bookmarking service, had missed del.icio.us and others until then). Now it's different. I've realized that it doesn't always matter. Because even if you are unique when you begin or launch, you will not be for very long anyway. Especially if the project is successful.

If you continue to do your own thing, without looking too much at what other people are doing you will still end up with something that is different. Or you may take what already exists and make it better. That said, I think it's better to postpone the yesfollow idea until we know more about yesfollow.org. What makes me curious is that it seems to have been around since 2006 and yet there are not many supporters, or am I missing something? Where are the links to the supporting sites? What we were going to do was not just another blog.
